Keeping Your Pets Safe During Winter

When it's cold and there's snow everywhere, remember that even though your furry friends have warm coats, there are other hazards lurking outdoors:

Hunting season - give your companion animals bright orange collar, coats or bandannas so there is no mistaking them for the unfortunate wild animals who are the targets.

Snow, Salt and ice can injure your friend's paws and pads - make sure to clean their feet when they come inside.

Just because there is snow on the ground doesn't mean they don't need lots of fresh water. If they are outside (even on a nice day) for any extended amount of time, be aware their water will freeze quickly.

Like humans, animals are subject to hypothermia. Be aware of the signs and symptoms, which include lethargic behavior and confusion.

Antifreeze is deadly but tastes sweet so animals often lick it. Purchase the non-poisonous type in order to protect your animals and the environment. Ask your friends and neighbors to do the same.
