Pregnant Appaloosa Mares Desperately Seeking Homes

The Animali Farm in Santa Monica, California, has 38 Appaloosa mares in foal that are in desperate need of homes. The mares are part of a rescue operation that takes in horses previously on Premarin farms. Premarin (Pregnant Mare's Urine) is a drug made of estrogen collected from the urine of pregnant mares, and is used to treat symptoms of postmenopausal women or women who have had a hysterectomy.

Jennifer Johns and Cheryl Forbes are the founders and operators of Animali Farm. 99% of the horses they take in come from Premarin farms. They place over 1,000 horses in new homes each year.

The Appaloosa mares being offered for adoption were part of a large Appaloosa breeding operation. They need to find new homes right away, before they are too far along in their pregnancies for travel.

You can take a look at the mares being offered for adoption on the Animali Farm website. They will ship horses absolutely anywhere in the country. If you, or anyone you know, could possibly have a place for one of these horses, please contact Jennifer & Cheryl at (805) 938-0174.
