As the largest all-volunteer animal protection organization in Vermont, Green Mountain Animal Defenders works to raise awareness about the plight of companion animals, farmed animals, wildlife, and animals used for entertainment or in laboratory testing and promote green living. GMAD educates the public on these topics and more by hosting educational tables, organizing animal protection events and campaigns, and advocating for pro-animal legislation on the state and federal levels.
Green Mountain Animal Defenders also helps animals directly by sponsoring spay/neuter programs and through our re-homing (adoption) efforts. GMAD's all volunteer work force has rescued, rehabilitated, and/or placed countless cats, dogs, ferrets, mice, birds, rabbits, pigs, and chickens, as well as a wide assortment of wildlife and other animals in need.
A major asset of GMAD is our unique internship program, which offers local students from the University of Vermont, Champlain College, Saint Michael's College, Burlington College, and the Community College of Vermont real-world experience in multiple disciplines. The synergy of young minds from diverse backgrounds in graphic design, business, political science, environmental studies, and others creates a dynamic atmosphere in which interns provide support for the all-volunteer structure of GMAD
GMAD's successes include a ban in Burlington on circuses that use exotic animals such as tigers and elephants. We are proud to have helped establish student animal protection organizations at both the University of Vermont and St. Michael's College.
GMAD's focus on the prevention of unwanted litters by promoting the spaying/neutering of dogs and cats has helped ease the serious problem of homeless animals.
This is just a sampling of the types of positive actions for animals that are made possible by your support!
How You Can Help: Donate to GMAD! A donation of any size would be greatly appreciated and it would make a world of difference to the animals, so PLEASE send yours today!
PLEASE NOTE: GMAD has no paid employees. The directors volunteer from their homes. This means that more of your contributions go directly to helping animals since there are very low administrative costs.
